Laucke Red Hen Scratch Grain Mix is a 20kg mixture of natural grains fortified with calcium and methionine, intended for free range poultry with access to fresh pasture.

  • Analysis: protein min 12.0 percent, fat min 3.0 percent, calcium min 1.0 percent
  • Calcium is supplied as marble chips, used in bone development and egg shell formation
  • Methionine is an essential amino acid required for growth, egg size and rate of lay
  • This is a medication free and meat free diet

Intended as a base diet for hens that can forage for worms and bugs, with additional vitamins and protein coming from that foraging. Fresh household scraps may also be fed.

Feeding questions

Is scratch a complete feed? No. Laucke lists Red Hen Scratch at 12 percent protein and 1 percent calcium (calcium as marble chips, plus methionine) and intends it for free-range hens with pasture; if free-range conditions are not ideal, Laucke says to feed a complete layer food. Use scratch as a treat under 10 percent of the diet.
