Clumping litters: the everyday choice
A clumping litter turns urine into a solid lump you lift out, so the rest of the tray stays clean and a full change happens weeks apart instead of days. All the clumping litters we stock are plant-based rather than clay.
- Cat's Best Original (10 L and 20 L): the maker's directions are a 5 to 7 cm fill, remove clumps regularly, and a complete change lasts up to seven weeks. Cat's Best puts its economy in one comparison: about 2.1 kg of Cat's Best a month per cat against 21 kg of conventional litter. Cat's Best Sensitive is the version the maker positions for sensitive cats.
- World's Best Cat Litter Clumping (6.8 kg and 12.7 kg): made from corn, quick clumping, 99 percent dust free and lightweight. World's Best's flushing caveat is worth repeating: one or two clumps at a time in a well-maintained toilet, and check local rules. The Multi-Cat formula is the one for two or more cats.
- Wee Kitty Corn Clumping (2 kg to 9 kg): Rufus and Coco's corn and plant fibre litter, lightweight pellets with low tracking and little dust, safe for kittens, compostable and flushable in small quantities.

Paper litter: soft, dust-free, no clumps
Breeders Choice is 99 percent recycled paper. It does not clump, so solids are scooped and the whole tray is changed on a schedule; what it gives back is a soft, low-dust pellet that suits cats recovering from surgery, declawed or elderly cats, and anyone sensitive to dust. Breeders Choice Plus Probiotic is the same paper litter with natural probiotics added for odour, and Breeders Choice Plus Kitten has flatter, softer pellets and a natural attractant to help a kitten find the tray.
Pellet litters: absorbent and cheap per kilo
Wood and plant pellets soak urine up and break down into sawdust or fibre underneath; you sift or replace rather than scoop clumps. They are the economical choice for multi-cat homes and catteries, and the heaviest to carry.
- Elite Pelletized Pine (15 kg): pine pellets in a bulk bag, the lowest cost per kilo in the range.
- Cat's Best Smart Pellets: the exception that clumps. Cat's Best describes them as the first clumping mini-pellets, shaped so they do not stick to fur and paws, which is why they are the pick for long-haired cats and for tracking.
- Catmate Hardwood Pellets (10 kg), Harwood Oat Hull Pellets (20 kg, unscented, can go on the garden after use per Harwood) and Login Rice Husk (2.5 kg and 7.2 kg) are the other plant pellets.
The two-layer system
Ezi-LockOdour is a different idea: zeolite pellets on top repel moisture and let urine pass to an absorbent, antibacterial pad below. The maker's routine is a pad a week and pellets monthly, with solids removed promptly, rated for one cat of 8 kg or under. It suits a single indoor cat where the owner wants no scooping of wet litter at all.
Which litter for which house
- One indoor cat, small flat, odour is the worry: a plant-fibre clumping litter (Cat's Best Original, Wee Kitty Eco Plant or Bamboo, World's Best) scooped daily. The Ezi-LockOdour system is the alternative if you would rather change a pad than scoop.
- Two or more cats: World's Best Multi-Cat or a 20 L Cat's Best, scooped twice a day, or pine pellets in a large tray if cost per kilo matters more than clumping.
- Kitten: Breeders Choice Plus Kitten (soft pellets, attractant) or Wee Kitty Kitten Corn. Kittens taste-test litter, so a plant litter is the sensible default.
- Litter tracked through the house: Cat's Best Smart Pellets, or a heavier pellet litter, plus a mat at the tray.
- Compost or flush: Cat's Best and the Wee Kitty clumping litters are compostable per their makers; for flushing, follow the maker's caveat (small quantities, well-maintained toilet, local rules) and never flush clay.

Is bentonite clay litter bad for cats?
World's Best's own comparison notes that clay litters are cheaper but some contain silica dust that can aggravate allergies. We stock plant-based clumping litters instead; Wee Kitty states outright that Eco Plant contains no bentonite clay.
Crystal litter or clumping?
Crystals (silica) are highly absorbent and low dust but do not clump and, per World's Best's comparison, need stirring twice a day. We do not stock crystal litter; a clumping plant litter does the same job with daily scooping.
How often should I change cat litter?
